I served my apprenticeship in Paignton, Devon from 1966-1971 and stayed with the same company until 1973 before moving to London and getting married in 1974.
We moved to Poole in Dorset in 1977 and our daughter was born in April of that year and in 1980, we moved back to Paignton and I worked for a plumbing and heating company as senior engineer until starting my own business in 1990 successfully running my business there until, in 2002, my wife and I divorced.
Having met my current partner on the internet in 2003, I eventually decided to wind up my business there and move to her home town of Otley and starting Higgins Heating here in November 2005, so have now been established in Otley for 10 years.
I deal with all aspects of domestic and small commercial heating, including: Servicing, fault diagnostics, repairs and replacements of boilers. I design and install full systems and am Energy Efficiency qualified as well as Gas Safe Registered.
I also deal with general plumbing work such as bathrooms, kitchens etc.
I used to install, mainly, Worcester Bosch boilers until being approached by the German boiler manufacturers, Viessmann in 2007.
I was invited to their training facility at the UK headquarters in Telford and qualified on the 100W and 200W ranges, thus giving me their approved installer status.
Having been a very successful part of the Viessmann installer network, I was invited to the main plant in Allendorf-Eder in Germany.
I spent 3 days at the factory there and gained a much deeper insight into the company, the build quality and general overall level of service offered by this premier boiler manufacturer. Although I do install other makes, if my customers request them, I thoroughly recommend the Viessmann brand and indeed have one in my own home, with full weather compensation for greater efficiency.
My interests are Golf, Rugby and building my N gauge model rail layout (when I get the time)!
I also visit my daughter and grandchildren in the West Country about 4 or 5 times a year and still have a property there, which I co-own with my daughter.
Have your gas appliances checked every year.
Lazy yellow flames could mean your appliance has a fault.
Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm.
Always use a ‘Gas Safe’ engineer like Higgins Heating.
